Montserrat Tour from Barcelona with Optional Cogwheel Train
About This Tour
Explore Montserrat Monastery and Basilica, enjoy mountain views, and choose optional upgrades for the cogwheel train and reserved Black Madonna access.
Experience Montserrat’s monastery, mountain scenery, and cultural heritage on a guided excursion from Barcelona. This tour keeps the focus on Montserrat itself, combining an introduction to its religious significance with free time to explore independently.
Depart from Barcelona’s Estació del Nord aboard a shared, air-conditioned coach. Along the way, your guide will introduce Barcelona and Catalonia, providing context for the mountain’s importance to Catalan culture and identity.
At Montserrat, join an approximately one-hour guided visit of the monastery and basilica, including skip-the-line basilica admission. Discover the abbey’s history and spiritual meaning beneath the mountain’s distinctive rock formations.
After the guided portion, enjoy free time based on your selected option. Take in the views, walk toward St. Michael’s Cross, or visit the Montserrat Museum, home to works by artists including Dalí and Caravaggio. Museum admission is purchased separately.
For a scenic approach to the monastery, choose an option featuring the cogwheel train ride up the mountain. Select the Black Madonna option if you would like reserved access to the shrine of La Moreneta, a major destination for pilgrims.
Your excursion concludes with the coach ride back to Estació del Nord in Barcelona.
